I wonder if we could trace the whereabouts of ex-Irish players who are still in the sport.

Remember this scrum half?

Hmm, Henti Martins as coach. I was looking for details of Nnamdi Ezulike the other day but couldn't find where he was playing now. The trail lead to Esher but no mention of him after that (Sept 04). Ezulike had originally gone to Wuss for a while.

Jarrod Cunningham appeared in the news in November regarding a charity golf event : http://hbtoday.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?s ... ubsection=

Peter Richards at Gloucester and Mike Worsley at Quins (with a broken leg according to a mate who has Mr Worsley as a landlord).

Glenn Delaney went to Narbonne and Jimmy Cockle to Rotherham but don't know whether either are still there.

Am I right in thinking that the Kevin Putt of the Austin Healey stamping incident went on to coach Natal Sharks until March of this year when he was sacked? If it is the same Kevin Putt, he is now in the NPC with Counties Manakua.

One and the very same KB Putt Esq, VD and scar. He's had quite a distinguished career since leaving us.

BTW, when we played Narbonne at home last year Glen Delaney came over with them and was highly visible in the upstairs bar of the hotel afterwards. I have to say he seemed in very good form. If memory serves, he came on in the second half.

Ed Thrower, Rob Hoadley and of course Paul Sackey went to Wasps.

Mark Mapletoft is at Sarries as Assistant Academy Manager and Chris Sheasby is Head Coach at Staines.

It looks like Simon Halford went to Leeds in June 2003 and Ross Broadfoot is at Leicester.

And 'borrowing' from balpw2 on The Craic it looks like James Storey has gone to London Welsh.

NCA AWARDS OCTOBER 2005
NATIONAL THREE SOUTH
COACH of the MONTH

Owen Cobbe – Havant

The NCA Coach of the Month Award for October in National Three South goes to Owen Cobbe the player/coach at Havant.

Owen is director of rugby at Portsmouth Grammar School, and was a fulltime player for 10 years with London Irish and Connacht where he served under both Clive Woodward and Warren Gatland, before becoming a fulltime DOR with the Wanderers club in Dublin.

Moving back into education he joined HRFC as a player 3 seasons ago, and masterminded the clubs return to the National league, and subsequent 7th spot last season.

DOR Adam King Said "We had a very successful October, and this award is a testament to Owen Cobbe and his coaching team which consists of Ian Calder as backs coach the former Worcester, and Basingstoke coach, and Simon Morgan as forwards coach. Owen is an extremely professional and passionate coach, and has the respect of all the playing staff at HRFC which is a key factor in our performances having been raised in October.

A few more ex-exiles.

James Brown is at Worcester and Zak Feau'nati is at Bath.
Some fella called Conor O'Shea is at the RFU but I'd imagine everyone knows that one.
I'm assuming that the Niall Woods who is CEO of the Irish Rugby Union Players Association (IRUPA) is 'the' same Niall Woods.
Jake Boer is at Gloucester, I think most will know that too.

Dom
It's the same Niall Woods.

I'm sure someone told me that Jimmy Cockles had to retire due to a back injury and is now selling insurance.

Ulster have Justin Fitzpatrick, Kieran Campbell & David Humphreys.

Exeter have Kevin Barrett, Mark Gabey & Tony Roques.

Quins also have Kevin 'Kidzilla' Burke.

Matt Cannon's at Welsh.

Ben Whetstone is currently playing for Cambridge (Rugby Club not uni).

Glenn Delaney is the new DoR at Nottingham & his scrum half is Kevin Brennan.

How could we forget Robert Todd, still playing in the GP.

Also... Geoff Appleford at Saints.

Dougie Wheatley at WP and Pierre Durant at OFS Cheetahs.

Taling of locks, Jeff Farensohn has retired, I think, but Steve Williams is coaching - somewhere like Coventry. MOK is still playing of course, although Jeremy Davidson has given up.

We know that Eddie Halvey is now playing for Shannon but what happened to Batesy? Has he given up?

I don't think Pierre is with the Cheetahs. I believe he's gone Italian.

There's also Brent Cockbain at Swansea Neath Ospreys.

He has set up a charity in memory of his son Toby.

The Toby Lloyd Cockbain Foundation

The Toby Lloyd Cockbain Foundation is a registered charity that supports children with cancer in Wales.

This Foundation was set up after Kate and Brent Cockbain experienced the heart breaking loss of their son - Toby - soon after his first birthday. This website is not only a tribute to Toby, but also a news and information centre for the foundation

A few more additions and alterations made to the big list above - that Paul Burke is the spitting image of Danbert Nobacon of Chumbawamba!

A few other names spring to mind

Mark McCall - coach at Ulster

Brian Mullin - running a roofing business in Wimbledon

Gary Halpin - one of my all time favorite LI players - teaching

Nick Harvey and Rob Gallagher - whereabouts unknown but great players in their day.

Jeff 'speedboat' Fahrenson - someone made up a song about him. He was capped by Germany while at LI but retired due to injury

Gawd, I'm showing my age!!!

Add a few extra ones with thanks to everyone who has contributed so far. I reckon we should keep it to players for now though so let me know if any in the main list below are coaches.

(moved the list to the end of the thread)

Dan MacFarland played for Richmond I think but never us. John McFarland did in the early 90's and was coaching in South Africa the last time I heard.

Marco Rivaro, anyone?

Did we not have a player called Bird with us at some point?

Mrs C

Marco seems to have vanished off the face of the planet since he left us to go back to university. He played in 2000 & 2001 varsity match's, and has been unheard of since.

That would be Ciaran Bird, one of those who took the club to court (or tribunal) regarding unfair dismissal I think.
